Web Hosting - Additional Domains

It is common for businesses to have more than one domain name. For example, your company may have yourcompany.com and your company.net. OpenAccess web hosting supports multiple domains.

There are three ways to handle multiple domains: Parking, Add-On, and Sub-Domain. The most popular solution is parking. It may seem a little intimidating to setup at first.

Adding a Parked Domain

A parked domain is a domain that allows everything at both your domains (www and e-mail) to direct to your main domain.

Using the yourcompany.com example, a customer could type in either www.yourcompany.com or www.yourcompany.net and be sent directly to the website www.yourcompany.com.
Also, e-mail sent to either user@yourcompany.com or user@yourcompany.net would be delivered to user@yourcompany.com.

You can set this up and have it working in three steps. Before you begin login to your administrative area on the web server .

  1. Go to the 'Sub Domains' section and choose 'Manage Parked Domains'.? Be sure the domains are registered and not pointing elsewhere.? Type in your additional domain name and click 'Add Domain!'. If your domain is not registered, or is registered but already pointing? elsewhere, you will receive an error message.
  2. Return to the main administrative page, and go to the 'E-Mail' section.? Choose 'Email domain forwarding', and from there click 'Add Domain Forwarder'. Now, select your additional domain from the pop up button on the left, and type in your main domain name on the right.
  3. Done!? Domain parking relies on the global internet DNS system, which means that it may take anywhere from 4 to 24 hours for the additional domain to direct to your main domain.
